The Wick (80 Eastway, Hackney Wick, London E9 5JH) is set to become London’s most vibrant destination to watch the Brazil 2014 games – plus so much more.
The brainchild of Garfield Hackett (Mutate Britain, Cordy House, Shangri La/Trash City at Glastonbury), the space – currently the Cre8 Community Centre – is being transformed into a cultural playground for Londoners to worship the beautiful game whilst drinking cocktails, eating gourmet food, enjoying cutting edge street art and keeping the kids entertained!
All the key matches will be shown on The Wick’s four huge screens and footie fans can take advantage of the bars (serving bespoke cocktails as well as beers), BBQ food from the flaming grills of the acclaimed Big Apple Hot Dogs, delicious ice cream and waffles served in a vintage style from Jiggery Pokery, a choice of lovingly smoked, responsibly sourced food from Sugar Shack – whilst kicking off their shoes and playing in the giant sandpit, or indoors on one of the venue’s comfy sofas.
Outside at The Wick there will be regular five a side tournaments on the custom built pitches and over the next few weeks local businesses, celebs, media and pro players will compete. On World Cup final day the Boilerroom Crew take over and big name DJs will compete on the turntables and on the astroturf.
A huge array of art will be on display within the space and street artists will be creating live installations during some of the key matches – many of which will be raffled for charity afterwards. There will also be live music and DJs most nights and spontaneous parades from the Mutate ‘creatures’ including Paka’s dragon, the flame breathing robot.
For those looking to make a big night of it, the venue has some premium tables which can be pre-booked via Fatsoma with a minimum bar/food spend of £100, guaranteeing great views of the screens.
During the daytime and for early matches, there will also be activities for families and children at The Wick.
